New Federal Signage Rule

Effective January, 1st 2012 A New Federal law goes in effect with regard to the reflectivity of certain Traffic Control signs. A Traffic Control sign is any sign that is an absolute sign meaning what its face value says is a law. This applies to Speed Limit Signs, Stop Signs, One Way Signs, Do Not Enter Signs etc. Most people think ok that doesn't affect me they are not my signs. That is true unless you are a business/property owner where the property is used by the public in general. Example, Wal-Mart, restaurants etc. If you are one of those people even your Private Property being used to by the public then you are also subject to these new laws. In regards to Handicap and Parking Signs etc. it is required that they minimally be constructed with Engineer Grade Reflective Material's. These laws are in affect to help increase nighttime visibility for drivers. The change is as follows: Effective January, 1 2012 all Traffic Control signs shall be minimally constructed with High Intensity grade Reflective materials. All Street Name Signs must be replaced by 2018.

Also starting in 2012 there are new size a height requirements for certain signs. Any street name sign where the speed limit is 25 mph or less a 6" high sign with 4" letters must be used. Where the speed limit is over 25 mph a 9" high sign with 6" letters must be used. In regards to height changes, all signs of a regulatory or directing manor must be mounted with a distance of 7' from the grade of the surface to the Bottom of the sign. All of these changes are being implemented can be found in the Manual on Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Personal injury or loss of life in an area where traffic signs fail to comply with new federal standards, will result in exposure to tort liability.

All replacement signage is available thru us at a discounted rate.
