When it comes to your signs' lighting here are some simple ideas for you to remember:

    1.   If you have burnt out bulbs in your sign, the light ballast (Starter) is constantly attempting to light the bulbs that are burnt out, which uses more energy than a bulb which lights as it is supposed to.

    2.   If your ballast is constantly attempting to start the burnt out bulbs that is putting a great strain on the ballast which is only designed to start and regulate the bulbs.   So over time if your ballast continues to be strained it will result in the ballast burning up, causing all your bulbs to go out and ballast needing to be replaced.   Remember, it is cheaper to replace bulbs than it is to replace a whole ballast and have it re-wired!
